Everyone can make a difference in their impact on the planet, and there are many ways to achieve this, but the mix of things will be personal to people’s priorities and personal situations. For example, you might put solar panels on your roof but still like a Sunday roast. Or you might decide to give up meat, but still want to visit family on the other side of the world. Or, you might buy an Electric Vehicle, but still love to shop for new clothes.
It’s not possible to do everything perfectly, and what is possible for one person may be completely impractical or undesirable for someone else. As well as this, change is hard to make and is always a journey. Over the last few years, we have become increasingly aware of the need to live more sustainably, and we all know it is better for the planet to eat less meat, to consume less stuff, to reduce our carbon footprint related to our travel and our homes. But things are never simple and some solutions come with additional compromises.
So what to do? At Watlington Climate Action group we aim to help you make informed decisions about how to make your life more sustainable. We believe that it is better to have lots of people doing climate action imperfectly than just a few doing it perfectly. It would be a non-existent membership if we tried for that. Here are some examples of things we might encourage you to think about, but are certainly not a condition of membership!
· Take holidays in the UK
· Eat less meat
· Swap your car for an EV
· Turn your thermostat down by one degree
· Buy pre-loved clothes
· Use a refill store (like So Sustainable)
